College Counseling

Dear Families,

Our College Counseling Office is committed to supporting each Trevor student in finding their optimal fit in a college or university. We are dedicated advocates and facilitators every step of the way. We provide comprehensive preparation and support—based on deep knowledge of the students and their academic program, decades of collaborating with colleges and universities, and a strong record of helping students discover fits with the right institutions.

We begin in sophomore year by introducing families to an overview of the entire college process—from the college search to enrollment. Our intensive work with students and families kicks into high gear during junior year, when students join our College Cluster classes, which cover every topic from “How to research a college” to “How to interview” to “What is a supplemental essay and how do I write a great one?” We also facilitate grade-level workshops and opportunities to connect with college representatives, and we hold family meetings for each student. In junior and senior years we meet with students in small groups once a week to support their work on applications.

A key aspect of the journey is the relationship we cultivate with our students. Each and every Trevor student is a unique individual with distinct goals and aspirations. Our teachers, advisors, and the entire College Counseling Office form strong, personal relationships with each student. We know your child and value their interests and opinions. As in all else at Trevor, we put the students at the center, for they are the best drivers of an authentic and effective process.

Trevor students have choices among our nation’s top colleges and universities. More importantly, they excel when they get there. The rich diversity in selected schools reflects our dynamic student body.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any and all questions. Our doors are always open to you.

Sincerely,

The Trevor College Counseling Office

College Counseling Resources

Trevor hosts a College Counseling site on the Portal which offers students and their families a comprehensive overview of the college application process. The site includes timely bulletins, articles, a list of college search engines, information about financial aid, writing essays, and college visits, and many other requirements and strategies for getting into a college of choice. It also links to SCOIR, a platform that allows the College Counseling Office to collaborate with students and families throughout the college application and decision-making process.
