Choreolab

Choreolab is a vibrant expression of Trevor’s values—creativity, empowerment, collaboration, and community.
A hallmark of the Trevor experience, Choreolab is an annual extracurricular event showcasing student choreography. Open to dancers in grades 8–12, it brings together choreographers, performers, and designers who dedicate countless hours to crafting original works. Guided by expert faculty, students take creative risks, refine their artistry, and transform ideas into compelling performances in an environment that fosters curiosity and innovation.

More than just a performance, Choreolab is a shared journey that connects students through movement and collaboration. Whether on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience, every participant contributes to its powerful, unifying force.

Trevor Alumnus

It opened a door that became an essential aspect of my Trevor experience and is one of the most meaningful parts of my life. Dance gives us permission to express ourselves in ways that are suppressed in day-to-day social interaction. Dance doesn’t belong to a gender or a particular race or culture. It’s everyone’s to take.

Choreolab's History

This hallmark program began in 1981 at the Walden School, as a humble idea under Bonnie Brown’s direction. Guided by her philosophy that the creative process is the most invigorating and intellectual pursuit in the art of dance, she sought to empower students by giving them the opportunity to create something with a purpose. For the first show, students constructed the stage with leftover wood and muslin, collected costumes from home, and used cue cards to announce each performance. It was a huge success. Brown noted, “When it was over, the students’ first question was, ‘Can we do it again next year?’”

Choreolab constantly evolves, but over 40 years later, it remains true to its mission—to give students ownership of the creative process. Each year, students and alumni return to experience the energy and excitement of one of the most successful and flourishing extracurricular activities on campus—consistently. selling out all three performances of this beloved tradition.
