Computer Science Curriculum

Across the grade levels, Trevor develops thoughtful digital citizens who deeply understand our digital world and have the tools to make it a useful and beautiful space. In all divisions, the projects, programs, and courses offered teach both digital citizenship and computational thinking. The department not only offers a discrete set of courses, but it is a frequent interdisciplinary collaborator on topics ranging from Makerspace initiatives and the exploration of digital art, to the study of digital humanities.

Signature Trevor

Trevor was an early adopter of technology integration in the classroom, including participation in a landscape-shifting pilot program in the 1990s utilizing 1-1 laptops for each student. Since then Trevor has stayed on the cutting edge of curricular integration with digital resources—keeping the educational experience relevant and innovative.

  • Item 1

Offers an Advanced Programming Workshop which gives students freedom to design their course around something they are passionate about—the perfect scaffolding within which to apply and advance their skills.
  • Item 2

Offers students a deep dive into artificial intelligence in Advanced Coding.
  • Item 3

Encourages a deep integration of digital and historical thinking skills through a unique Digital Humanities program. Using digital textual analysis tools, students dig deeply into historical primary sources while placing each text within the context of hundreds or thousands of other documents from the same era.

Department Mission Statement

Trevor’s Computer Science Department seeks to promote students’ self-development of computational thinking skills that remain useful in a constantly changing environment. Students will develop a foundation of computer science knowledge and learn myriad approaches to problem solving using multiple languages and platforms. By applying computational thinking as a tool for learning and expression in a variety of disciplines and interests, students will actively participate as digital citizens in a world that is increasingly influenced by technology.

Faculty

Trevor’s computer science department is committed to supporting students on their diverse journeys within this ever-evolving field. Faculty bring an unbridled enthusiasm for innovation and the know-how to continuously fuel students’ curiosity. Accessibility is a key ingredient in this formula, and students have an open invitation to brainstorm and troubleshoot with faculty inside and outside of the classroom.

College Ready

Having completed their course of study in computer science, Trevor graduates are familiar with multiple programming languages and have been challenged to solve problems with no predetermined answer. Students carry with them a toolbox of computational thinking skills, ethical awareness, and coding languages which they can apply to virtually any subject in college and beyond.
