Global Studies

Global Studies Overview

Trevor’s mission prioritizes a celebration of diversity of thought, experiences, and cultures, and the development of lifelong learners and leaders who act as responsible global citizens. This commitment exists in the classrooms, extracurricular offerings, and shared spaces of every division.

Curriculum

Throughout the curriculum, Trevor students learn about the many different cultures, histories, and experiences represented at Trevor and in our multicultural city, as well as in our national and global communities. They progressively master one or more world languages. And our Upper School students are encouraged to further their learning by participating in at least one international offering through the Global Studies program.

Trevor offers a variety of ways for students to explore the world around them while building their global awareness. Trips range from language immersions and service-learning experiences to historical excursions and individual exchanges. Our Global Studies program is deeply interconnected with our programs in World Languages, Community Engagement, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and benefits from our membership in the Round Square International Network.

Round Square International Network

In 2018, Trevor was invited to join Round Square, a consortium of over 200 independent schools around the world who share a commitment to discovering the world and making a difference. Through this membership, Trevor Upper School students and faculty are able to participate in a wide range of travel, exchange, and hosting opportunities including group and individual exchanges and attending Round Square conferences both in the U.S. and abroad.

Round Square schools embrace a series of six "IDEALS": Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service. The IDEALS on which Round Square is based on the theories of experiential education by philosopher Dr. Kurt Hahn, who believed that it was crucial for students to prepare for life by facing it head on and experiencing it in ways that demand courage, generosity, imagination, principle, and resolution. Students at Round Square schools make a commitment to addressing each of the six IDEALS through intellectual and cultural exchanges, service projects, and adventure activities.
