History

History Curriculum

Trevor’s history department teaches complex material to students through an evidence-based approach that instills a passion for learning about the world and prepares them to lead change in the society that they'll inherit. Through its diverse curriculum and engaging pedagogy, the history department strives to develop in its students high-level skills in reading, writing, critical thinking, analysis, intellectual exploration, and collaboration.

Signature Trevor

The department aims to have every student see themselves reflected in the curriculum. To bring this ideal to fruition, the faculty commit to lifelong learning and ongoing professional development. This dynamic nature allows teachers to rethink and refine the curriculum to benefit current and future students. It also promotes interdisciplinary studies that approach history from a wide range of lenses including media and journalism, the arts, technology, philosophy, economics, and anthropology.

Department Mission Statement

Trevor’s History Department engages students in critical ways to prepare them for a lifetime of intellectual curiosity which can strengthen their ability to communicate effectively while also challenging them to improve the communities and lives around them. Talented teachers guide and support Trevor students throughout this process, instilling the confidence, skill, and leadership to supplement their journeys and pursuit of happiness.

Faculty

The history faculty are passionate, innovative, and student-centered. They encourage students to actively engage with their world and grapple with questions of the past and present to guide their understanding of society. Trevor’s common spaces help the faculty remain student-focused while being transparent about the work they do as history scholars. Within a defined course sequence, there is latitude to adapt methods and sources, share ideas and experiences, and expand upon elements of the curricula that teachers and students find most compelling.

College Ready

Having completed their course of study in history, Trevor students are comfortable approaching a variety of complex source materials with critical analysis, rethinking their own perspectives, and having the tools to become leaders in their college communities. Trevor graduates can recognize society’s successes and failures—past and present—that ultimately determine their best course of civic engagement.
