Health & Wellness Program

Known for making learning a positive experience, Trevor focuses on strong academic achievement in conjunction with the social and emotional development of our students—a commitment to the whole child, student engagement, and balanced, purposeful lives. 

Curriculum

Dedicated Health & Wellness faculty facilitate an intersectional and comprehensive curriculum specific to the Trevor community. Our Health & Wellness Program fosters a safe space for students to learn about:

  • Lower School (upper elementary grades)

    Mental & Emotional Health 
    • Identifying, expressing, and managing a variety of emotions. Developing a healthy self image. 
    Social Health 
    • Developing healthy relationships. Responding to peer pressure and bullying. Building empathy towards peers.
    Physical Health 
    • Creating a healthy relationship with food and exercise. Prioritizing movement and rest. Exploration of puberty and sexuality.
  • Middle School

    Mental & Emotional Health 
    • Identifying, expressing, and managing a variety of emotions. Developing a healthy self image. Engaging with social media. 
    Social Health 
    • Developing healthy relationships. Responding to peer pressure and bullying. Building empathy towards peers.
    Physical Health 
    • Understanding negative effects of substance abuse. Creating a healthy relationship with food. Prioritizing movement and rest. Puberty, contraception, and consent.
  • Upper School

    Mental & Emotional Health 
    • Anxiety, stress, and depression.
    Social Health
    • Healthy relationships with parents/guardians, peers, and partners. Working toward a state of independence.
    Physical Health
    • Importance of sleep. Furthering a healthy relationship with food. Physical maturation. Coordination, agility, and body strength. 

Inside a Health & Wellness Class

  • Every Health & Wellness class begins with a 5-10 minute meditation or mindfulness exercise for students to carry into their everyday lives. 
  • Classes are designed to be practical and hands-on. 
  • The curriculum is flexible and adjusts to the specific needs of Trevor students. Throughout the school year we adjust the order of lessons based on the specific needs that emerge.
  • The classroom is a safe space where students can recalibrate and express themselves emotionally, mentally, and physically.
  • Discussions and asking questions in an open forum format are instrumental to the process of learning dimensions of Health & Wellness.
